Users enter prompts such as "going to concerts" or "cuddling with pets," and the AI creates lyrics and matches them with music from TikTok's pre-saved catalog, letting users select moods from genres like "pop," "EDM," or "hip-hop." TikTok has set guidelines for the use of AI Songs, prohibiting actions that harm or exploit minors, disseminate false information, or engage in harassing or defamatory activities. The company has also hinted at a possible name change for the feature in the future.
TikTok joins other platforms like YouTube in investigating AI-generated music capabilities, even though the platform's wider release of AI-generated music is still questionable. With the launch of the "Dream Track" tool on YouTube, producers could now create 30-second soundtracks that mimicked the sounds of different artists.
TikTok's venture into AI-generated music is consistent with its overall approach to the music industry. Parent company ByteDance previously released the free music production app "Ripple" in the United States, converting user-recorded melodies into instrumental tunes via machine learning.
